Case Follow-up 1
Based on your conversation, the patient agrees to wait for the pending biomarker results before starting first-line systemic therapy.

Her NGS report returns approximately 2 weeks later and identifies an actionable EGFR mutation, ex19del. Based on this result, she will be prescribed an EGFR-targeted oral therapy as the standard of care.3,10  You communicate the next steps in a conversation that may look like this: “Now that we have your biomarker testing results, we are going to start an EGFR-targeted oral therapy for you. This medication is taken at home, so before and after you begin treatment, we will check in closely to make sure you receive the medication, understand how to take it, and are not having side effects.” At the next visit, the patient says to you: “I picked up the medication and started taking it, but I want to make sure I’m doing everything correctly.”

What would you ask her to determine whether she is taking her EGFR-targeted oral therapy correctly at her first follow-up visit for advanced/metastatic NSCLC?
