Conclusions and Key Takeaways

Cachexia is a common, progressive, and clinically important multifactorial syndrome that significantly affects treatment tolerance, QoL, and outcomes for patients with advanced-stage cancer who are receiving treatment. Early recognition is feasible during routine clinical visits using currently available assessment tools. Of significant importance, the precachexia stage is the key window of opportunity for the integration of optimal treatment to prevent progression to the established cachexia stage. Although cancer cachexia remains a major unmet clinical need, improved recognition and systematic assessment represent important opportunities to enhance patient care and improve QoL.
