Advances in Personalized TKI Therapy for CP-CML: Nursing Considerations to Enhance Patient Education, Tolerability, and Adherence

The workshop will provide expert insights into the role of oncology nurses in caring for patients with chronic-phase chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) receiving tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) therapy, with a focus on patient education, managing TKI-related adverse events, and keeping patients both adherent to and persistent with their oral medications.

Goal Statement
This activity aims to improve learners’ knowledge and competence in the nursing management of patients with CP-CML who are receiving or eligible for TKI therapy.

Target Audience
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of oncology nurses and other healthcare professionals who care for patients with CML. 

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Support shared decision-making by educating patients with CP-CML about the latest clinical evidence and regulatory approvals for TKIs that are most likely to meet their treatment goals

  • Identify patients with CP-CML at risk for suboptimal adherence/persistence to their TKI therapy

  • Apply evidence-based strategies for supportive care and dose optimization to manage TKI-related adverse events in patients with CP-CML
