Interactive Treatment Decision Tool for SCLC: Expert Guidance on Treatment

Decera Clinical Education is grateful to Anne Chiang, MD, PhD, FASCO; Carl M. Gay, MD, PhD; Daniel Morgensztern, MD; Ticiana Leal, MD; and Mark A. Socinski, MD, who provided expert guidance, knowledge, and support in the development of this Interactive Decision Support Tool.

Note: The current tool was created in November 2025 and reflects the guidelines available at that time.

The goal of the tool is to educate clinicians on making optimal management choices for patients with small-cell lung cancer (SCLC).

This Interactive Decision Support Tool guides users through a structured series of questions to identify key patient and disease characteristics relevant to the management of SCLC. These characteristics include disease stage (limited-stage or extensive-stage), ECOG performance status, presence or absence of brain metastases, timing and pattern of relapse, prior systemic and radiation therapies, organ function, age and frailty considerations, comorbidities that may influence treatment tolerance, and contraindications to immunotherapy.

It is important to note that the characteristics included in this tool are not exhaustive. Additional clinical considerations—such as detailed cardiopulmonary function, concurrent medications, logistical constraints (eg, access to twice-daily radiation), psychosocial factors, and patient preferences—may also influence optimal treatment decisions but are not captured within the current structure of this tool. Users should integrate these factors, when appropriate, into their final clinical consideration.

This tool is designed around a “standard” SCLC patient presentation and assumes no unlisted comorbidities or special circumstances beyond those specified during case entry. Based on the characteristics you enter, the tool will display recommendations that reflect current guideline-based and evidence-supported management approaches for that specific clinical scenario. These recommendations are intended solely for educational purposes and should not replace independent clinical evaluation, multidisciplinary discussion, or individualized patient care.

This program is supported by educational grants from Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
