My Take on Hepatitis B Challenges in the African Immigrant Community

Clinical Thought

Over a decade ago, I was diagnosed with chronic hepatitis B. At the time, I was a recent immigrant to the US, with big dreams of working hard, attending school, and supporting my family. My diagnosis robbed me of some of these dreams. Read on to learn about my personal experience navigating barriers to treatment and why we must find ways to reduce these barriers for patients in the African immigrant community.

This activity is intended for US physicians, including hepatologists and gastroenterologists, nurse practitioners, physician associates, and other healthcare professionals involved in the care of patients with HBV.

  • Recognize barriers that hinder key communities’ engagement across the HBV care continuum, including screening, treatment initiation, monitoring, and sustained therapy
