Obesity Care Champions: Train-the-Trainer Workshop for Primary Care

This interactive, case-based program explores obesity management in primary care, including assessment beyond BMI, individualized treatment selection, emerging therapies, and strategies for long-term monitoring and maintenance. Learners will apply evidence-based approaches to shared decision-making and address real-world barriers such as access, workflow, and treatment persistence.

Goal Statement
The goal of this activity is to improve the competence, confidence, and performance of primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician associates in delivering evidence-based, patient-centered obesity care while cultivating a sustainable network of local obesity care leaders prepared to educate peers, advance best practices, and improve access to high-quality obesity management.

Target Audience
This educational activity is designed for primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician associates who care for patients with obesity.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this event, participants should be able to:

  • Apply recommended assessments that frame obesity as a chronic disease requiring timely treatment and long-term management
  • Formulate individualized treatment and monitoring plans for patients with obesity incorporating the latest evidence, guidelines, and patient-specific needs
  • Evaluate recent safety and efficacy evidence for new and emerging therapies for obesity
  • Implement health-centric, evidence-based strategies that support sustained obesity management and reduce obesity-related complications
