Firm Foundations in HIV Screening, Prevention, and Treatment Virtual Office Hours

This 45-minute “office hours” style session led by clinical faculty experts will include an open forum for clinical questions from learners as well as insights into ways diverse types of healthcare professionals can contribute to the HIV prevention and treatment response.

This activity is designed for medical students, residents, fellows, and early-stage clinicians, including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician associates, and pharmacists, who currently have limited experience in HIV treatment and prevention and wish to improve their competence in incorporating best practices into their patient care, today and in the future.

Goal Statement
The goal of this activity is to provide medical trainees and early-career clinicians a firm foundation of knowledge and competence in fundamental aspects of HIV screening, prevention, and care, and to support them in integrating HIV healthcare into their career pathways. 

Target Audience
This activity is designed for medical students, residents, fellows, and early-stage clinicians, including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician associates, and pharmacists, who currently have limited experience in HIV treatment and prevention and wish to improve their competence in incorporating best practices into their patient care, today and in the future.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this event, participants should be able to:

  • Implement status-neutral HIV screening and linkage to rapid PrEP or rapid ART services in diverse clinical settings
  • Identify candidates and offer appropriate regimens for nonoccupational PEP and PrEP (and transition from PEP to PrEP)
  • Apply best practices in addressing the primary care needs of people living with HIV and selecting appropriate first-line ART regimens and switches between ART regimens using shared decision-making
