Guideline-Concordant Bladder Cancer Care in Rural Practice: Team-Based Strategies for MIBC and First-line la/mUC

Bladder cancer care is rapidly evolving as immunotherapy and antibody–drug conjugates reshape perioperative treatment and first-line care for advanced disease. This interactive, case-based live program will help healthcare professionals apply guideline-concordant care for muscle-invasive bladder cancer and locally advanced/metastatic urothelial carcinoma in rural and community settings, with emphasis on treatment selection, biomarker testing, toxicity management, and multidisciplinary coordination.

CME/CE Info

Goal Statement
This activity aims to improve knowledge, competence, confidence, and team-based practice behaviors among HCPs caring for patients with MIBC and first-line la/mUC, with an emphasis on guideline-concordant therapy selection, perioperative and first-line treatment planning, mitigation of ADC- and immunotherapy-associated adverse events, timely multidisciplinary coordination, and shared decision-making with patients and caregivers.

Target Audience
This activity is intended for surgical urologists, urologists, uro-oncologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, nurse practitioners, physician associates, nurses, pharmacists, navigators, and other MDT HCPs responsible for treatment decisions, treatment coordination, adverse-event monitoring, and supportive care for patients with MIBC and first-line la/mUC in rural and community practice settings.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this event, participants should be able to:

  • Apply current evidence, clinical data, and guideline recommendations to guide treatment selection and sequencing for patients with MIBC and first-line la/mUC
  • Assess patient-, disease-, and practice-level factors that influence MIBC care planning, including cisplatin eligibility, surgical fitness, renal function, baseline neuropathy, frailty, nodal status, bladder-preservation candidacy, caregiver support, travel burden, and patient goals
  • Evaluate perioperative, adjuvant, immunotherapy-based, and ADC-based treatment strategies for patients with MIBC and first-line la/mUC based on efficacy, safety, eligibility, sequencing implications, monitoring needs, and access-to-care considerations
  • Integrate biomarker and risk-stratification information into multidisciplinary treatment planning, including FGFR3 alterations, HER2 expression, MSI/MMR status, tissue adequacy, repeat biopsy considerations, and appropriate interpretation of emerging ctDNA/MRD data
  • Implement multidisciplinary, patient-centered strategies to improve urology–medical oncology–radiation oncology coordination, recognize and mitigate immune-related and ADC-associated adverse events, support APP/nurse-led toxicity triage, and strengthen shared decision-making with patients and caregivers
