Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the bidirectional relationship between insomnia and mood disorders and recognize persistent insomnia as a residual symptom associated with poorer clinical outcomes, including relapse, suicidality, and treatment-resistant depression

  • Apply evidence-based approaches to identify and assess clinically significant insomnia in patients with mood disorders using validated screening tools and clinical evaluation

  • Individualize treatment strategies for insomnia in patients with mood disorders by integrating behavioral interventions and established and emerging pharmacologic therapies based on residual symptom burden, prior treatment response, and patient preferences
