Biomarker Analysis and Immunotherapy-Based Treatment of Advanced Gastric/GEJ Cancers

Clinical Thought

Recent clinical studies have increased options for therapy in patients with gastric/GEJ carcinoma in the advanced disease setting. In this commentary, learners will be provided with expert perspective on challenges of integrating immunotherapy-based treatment into the advanced disease setting. The standard of care will be reviewed, and additional information about incorporating subcutaneous formulations of immunotherapies into practice and practice gaps associated with evolving immunotherapy-based regimens will be discussed.

Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of medical oncologists and other healthcare professionals involved in the management of patients with gastric/GEJ cancers.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify patients with resectable gastric/GEJ cancers likely to benefit from established and emerging perioperative immunotherapy-based regimens

  • Recommend immunotherapy-based regimens for appropriate patients with advanced gastric/GEJ cancers based on current guidelines, data, biomarkers, and patient/disease factors

  • Compare subcutaneous vs intravenous formulations of immunotherapies in terms of logistics and the evidence for efficacy, safety, and quality of life

  • Assess the potential clinical impact of emerging data for novel immunotherapy-based regimens on management of gastric/GEJ cancers
