Empowering Oncology Nurses in HER2-Positive GEA and BTC: Practical Strategies for Safe and Effective Targeted Therapy Management

Video

In this on-demand webcast, an expert reviews the evolving role of HER2-targeted therapies in gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma and biliary tract cancer, emphasizing the importance of biomarker testing, treatment selection, and proactive toxicity management. Clinical trial evidence supporting established and emerging HER2-directed treatment strategies, including trastuzumab-based regimens, zanidatamab, and trastuzumab deruxtecan, is discussed, along with their efficacy, safety profiles, and implications for treatment sequencing. Key considerations include HER2 testing and reassessment at disease progression, recognition and management of treatment-related adverse events such as infusion-related reactions, diarrhea, and interstitial lung disease/pneumonitis, and strategies for patient education and symptom triage. The faculty also highlights the role of oncology nurses in multidisciplinary care coordination, shared decision-making, and early intervention to support treatment tolerability and optimize patient outcomes.
