Approaches to Improve Obesity Care

PDF

Obesity is highly prevalent, and it is associated with significant health consequences, including chronic cardiometabolic conditions, that are commonly treated in primary care settings. Healthcare professionals in primary care settings are particularly well-situated to oversee chronic disease management, and current guidelines recommend intentional treatment of obesity as a chronic disease, to prevent and improve weight-related conditions. This resource outlines the evidence-based 6As counseling framework (Ask, Assess, Advise, Agree, Assist, and Arrange) and provides clinical pearls for developing individualized care plans to serve as a guide for comprehensive obesity management in primary care and other healthcare settings.
