Target Audience

This educational activity is intended for gastroenterology nurse practitioners and physician associates, other advanced practice providers, such as those practicing in primary care, who are engaged in the care of patients with IBD.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Counsel patients on the relationship between IBD and obesity/overweight, including the risks for poor IBD disease outcomes

  • Utilize recommended screening and management practices for obesity and overweight in patients with IBD

  • Examine available and emerging medications for obesity management

  • Facilitate clear, compassionate, and culturally sensitive conversations with patients about weight and metabolic health

  • Identify pathways for multidisciplinary collaboration when managing patients with IBD and obesity
