Cases of Confounding Cholestasis: Navigating the Diagnostic and Therapeutic Challenges of PFICs

Progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis (PFIC) and Alagille syndrome (ALGS) are rare, heritable cholestatic liver diseases that are typically recognized in pediatric settings but can present across the lifespan. PFIC and ALGS are associated with elevated serum bile acid levels and debilitating pruritus, a hallmark of these diseases, and can lead to progressive hepatic injury and a range of systemic effects. Join experts for an interactive, case-based symposium that will equip HCPs with practical strategies for recognizing, diagnosing, and managing PFIC and ALGS in adult populations.
Presented for attendees of The Liver Meeting® 2026. This event/function is provided by Clinical Care Options and supported by Ipsen. This is not an official event/function of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases.

  • Devise individualized, evidence-informed treatment and symptom management strategies for adults with PFIC and Alagille syndrome
  • Implement a multidisciplinary care plan that integrates long-term disease monitoring, transition of care planning, and family-centered genetic counseling for patients with PFIC and Alagille syndrome
